Since tomorrow we enter the 6th month of 2008, I figured we could have a little year-in-review thus-far.

Which 5-10 albums have completely rocked your socks through the first half of '08.
And which albums do you most anticipate by the end of the year?



I'll start with my top albums.

I gotta be honest, this year has been a letdown for me. There were so many albums that were destined to be awesome this year that just failed.
I guess if I have to say good albums then these are it.

Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun 2008 rerelease/remaster. Originally released in 2000 or 2001 but that doesn't matter, a great album and so far album of the year.

Thrice - The Alchemy Index III + IV. Not metal but still a testament to this bands creativity and will to be something different.

Children Of Bodom - Bloodrunk. Shocked me at first with its heaviness, I didn't know this band could be so heavy.

Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe. Still growing on me but I'm waiting for it to surpass PBP.

Testament - Formation Of Damnation. Pretty much Testament doing what Testament have always done. Unfortunately its not the album I was hoping for after the Gathering, but its an awesome album so who can complain.

Zimmers Hole - While You Were Shouting At The Devil... Good album, a bit silly, nothing amazing but really solid riffs, well written songs and excellent vocals. 1312 is the song of the year for me so far.

After reading this thread I realize this year has been a disapointing one. I did buy the debut of Cavalera COnspiracy and enjoyed it. Ihashn angL was great as well. I liked Opeths new album but I have to listen more to it. Testaments album is the regular album they almost always do. Enjoyable but nothing exceptional. Was kind of disapointed with Meshuaggahs obzen but it might grow on me still (I really liked catch 33 and nothing). The decrepit birth album was great but I need to listen more to it.

Have been really great so far. I don't have my CD's around me right now, and that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm still waiting for full lengths from Amon Amarth, Insomnium, Evergrey, Bloodbath, and a few others. It's shaping up to be a really great year. Edguy is in the studio again, Nemhain just finished work on their new album, Cradle of Filth is starting work on one that isn't supposed to suck for a change, as is Dragonforce. There's a hell of a lot going on, my connection is going to stay busy, and my wallet empty.

Moonsorrow's new release is pretty nice and Opeth isn't too bad either though I prefer the last album by them.

I did listen to the new Children of Bodom album and it has a few good tracks but I cannot listen to the entire thing through and through unlike their earlier work.

Norther - N must be the worst release this year. Or maybe the last few years. Very disappointing.
